bio

Over the past year, RIP Magic - made up of Marco Pini, Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight and Pedro Takahashi - have seen word-of-mouth momentum turn into something more concrete. Following the self-released double single Loot / Dox in June 2025, the four-piece have continued to build a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling new live acts, balancing their own frequently sold-out headline shows with festival appearances and high-profile support slots.

Formed just over a year ago, everything began to take shape when early RIP Magic demos were singled out by Tyler, The Creator when he heard them DJing in London. From there, the band found themselves appearing alongside a circle of like-minded artists — including Chanel Beads, Lolina, Panda Bear and Fakemink — before stepping up to larger stages supporting Fcukers and LCD Soundsystem.  Whilst playing those LCD Soundsystem shows in December last year, RIP Magic were also quietly selling unmarked white-label copies of their then-unreleased next single, “5words” — a live favourite that now sees the light of day.

RIP Magic have officially released their single “5words” via DFA. Produced by James Murphy, his first for another band in over a decade, the track is built around motorik drums, discordant synths and misbehaving bass lines - sharing its DNA with early post-punk, reframed for the present moment. Rather than leaning on revivalism, “5words” lets those reference points collapse into something immediate and functional, capturing a band continuing to define themselves in real time.

On March 6, DFA Records will release a 12” edition of “5words”, marking RIP Magic’s first-ever physical release, and featuring a remix from legendary Baltimore-born DJ and producer Maurice Fulton. The rework places the track within a classic New York club lineage, offering a loose, piano-house driven flourish that feels fitting given the record’s NYC origins.
