bio

Marcus Lambkin, also known as Shit Robot was born and bred in the suburbs of Dublin, Ireland. Growing up on a steady diet of  Killing Joke, Dead Kennedys and the Buzzcocks, etc. he ventured into the nightclubs of Dublin City where he discovered Acid House in the late 80’s.

Things were never to be the same. He started collecting whatever 12”s he could get his hands on. Marcus’ friends began throwing parties and booked DJ’s such as Andrew Weatherall and David Holmes and Marcus was schooled in the art of the DJ “set”.

After completing an apprenticeship in cabinet making Marcus won a green card in the visa lottery and left Dublin behind to move to New York City in the early 90’s.

After a chance meeting with some like-minded friends in the East Village Marcus was invited to play some records at the infamous rock venue “Brownies” on Sunday nights after the bands had finished. Here in front of a very few people he honed his skills on the turntables.

Shortly afterwards Marcus put together a mix tape and passed it around to three local East Village bars, who all hired him on the spot. It was at his weekly residency’s at the long gone Nation that one of the owners of the now legendary Save The Robots stopped by and heard Marcus DJing and offered him a residency on Saturday nights upstairs.

It was around this time that Marcus met fellow Dubliner Dominique Keegan, who asked Marcus to join him in starting the record label “Plant Records”.

By a crazy coincidence the new offices of Plant were in the same building as a little known indy punk rocker James Murphy, who was building a studio in the basement.

It was at Plant Bar that the Shit Robot party started with Marcus and James at the helm. This was a party where you could hear the Stooges and Can next to altern8 and nexus21. It was not a regular party, but somehow, the name stuck.

In 2004 Marcus left NY to move to his wife’s hometown of Stuttgart and started to DJ around Europe, North and South America and the rest of the world.

In 2006, after repeated insistence from James, Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot released his debut 12-inch on DFA, “Wrong Galaxy / Triumph.” Three albums, gigs all over the world, and a righteous grip of singles followed.
